Shown here are a variety of images using graphite putty on heavy duty decorators card.

Graphite putty can be applied as a wash or as a thick impasto technique. Used with the card it is a wonderful combination of mediums, allowing me to work with great freedom, using brushes and my hands. I work with large gestural movements, constantly turning the work to create the circle and balance, assessing the direction of the marks and controlling the lightness or heaviness of touch. Starting with a thin wash and gradually building up to thicker areas, eventually applying the putty directly from the container. When the putty is dry it is buffed to a sheen, shining more brightly where the putty is thickest.

These pictures represent an expressiveness in my work that I am trying nurture.
