BIO

My creative journey over the past few years has focused on developing a sense of freedom and energy in my work,

conscious move away from more traditional and restricted ways of working. This has led to questions, ideas, enquiry and experimentation. Materials and matter are often the starting point, encouraging accident and chance. My work is often sculptural with emphasis on texture and form. Engagement with a process can start with an instinctive conversation with material, examining its properties, thinking with the hands. naturally gravitate to non traditional materials, often humble, even mundane. These otherwise overlooked materials are inspiring to me and repurposing and rethinking them is at the heart of my practice. A process may evolve, a narrative reveal itself. Sometimes the ides are subliminal and surprise me with their presence , sometimes they are a strong and clear with a natural connection to the process.

Influences include Phylida Barlow for combining heft and playfulness from basic building materials, Nicola Hicks for her enigmatic creatures magically formed with plaster and straw and Mike Nelson for elevating the most humble of overlooked and discarded machinery and giving it dignity and humour.

Fashion, music and film also feature as well as my urban London community.
