My style of figurative sculpture has developed away from the rendering of an accurate image towards a more expressive style.

This piece is called 'Off balance and spinning dangerously out of control'. Height 50cm. Currently this piece is shown in black wax on a wooden plinth. I hope to cast it in the future. The form is simplified and exaggerated simultaneously , aiming to give a sense of movement and drama, a sense of forces working in opposition. This piece combines many influences. I have included some of the style my Mother used on two of her small sculptures, specifically the 'slice' off the buttock. I also added a little of Kim Kardashian's hips and waist, along with a spiralling on the legs, something from pilates techniques. The pictures below shows the figure clad in nylon tights giving a further sense of struggle and frustration and changing the vocabulary of the form.

I found the work of the surreal fashion photographer Tim Walker and his collaborator Shona Heath hugely inspirational in their manipulation of the human figure. They push the extremes, taking images into the realms of dreams and nightmares and redefining beauty.
